James & Physiofitness were highly recommended to me by my chiropractor. I finally went because I was using a heavy duty knee brace for walking & stairs - I was exhausted using stairs since I had to step down w/1 foot & than join the other foot before taking the next step down. Sooo slow! James said his goal was to get me off that brace & we succeeded! Anyway, I too, highly recommend James & the team at Physiofitness if you need help.

REASONS FOR HIGHEST LEVEL RECOMMENDATION: the expertise of staff, their kindness and friendliness. The loft itself is a beautifully light-filled space. It’s very well kept. The owner is involved on a daily basis. I've gone to other PT places in the neighborhood and through the hospital in the past and this is my #1 favorite.* Other studios treat patients for only a half and hour, and at most 45 minutes. Here each session lasts an hour.
The physical therapist I work with has been getting me better and better week by week. He’s upbeat, positive, always teaching me something new. I feel very fortunate to be working with him and at Physiofitness.

Recovering from very extensive spine surgery, as I am, can take more than a year. My treatment at Physiofitness requires work to help new bone and nerves grow from my back to my feet. Plus I am learning how to balance and walk again.

Helping folks with all types fo physical issues takes patience and trying different types of approaches. All of the therapists and trainers here continually "up the game" due to each individua'sl needs. Physiofitness treats patients from top elite class runners to folks like me.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN NEED OF HEALING!

*For immediate post-surgery treatment upon leaving the hospital I highly recommend trying to get into RUSK at NYU. It can make a world of difference.

Physiofitness is the best, most attentive physical therapy I've experienced. Everyone is kind, cheerful and welcoming. The space is open and airy and there are windows and sunlight! The physical therapy itself is one-on-one. I'm not handed over to an assistant. My therapist, James Calder, works with me for a full hour. I highly recommend James and Physiofitness.

Physiofitness is an excellent place for physical therapy! I injured my knee and thought I would have a lifetime of problems. James Calder has been taking care of my treatment and I am almost perfect in a short amount of time. I have total faith I will be even better than before!
Very happy and grateful!!

I was a counter strain patient of Stan Kupchenko’s for a little over 6 months. He was great at that modality, and was professional and appeared empathetic during sessions. The staff were always polite and friendly, and the facilities well-maintained.

I also needed to have my insurance cover my medically necessary treatment, which would require prior authorization paperwork. Stan and administrative (and supervisory; Dina Badami) staff verbally agreed to file that paperwork. The first email I sent them about it was in February 2024, to which they did not write back. By June, no paperwork had been started. As I was due to begin another health treatment (at about the same price per session: $235) in July and it was no longer financially feasible to continue even borrowing money from family, it became more urgent to address; I spoke with them about this insurance matter again, specifying the timeline necessary in order to ensure uninterrupted treatment. They all agreed again. June came and went with my following up with Stan at every appointment, and receiving verbal assurances with no paperwork.

Repeated follow ups via email produced a draft of the letter of medical necessity written by Stan by 07/10/2024. Unfortunately it omitted a lot of information required by insurance for prior authorization approval, such as the number and frequency of sessions being requested and the criteria for evaluating my recovery. As my treatment had already been interrupted due to these paperwork delays, I created a document revising the letter of medical necessity so it included all the mandatory information and evidence to support the need for this treatment, and shared it with Physiofitness. I explained the changes, and requested that they update it with the numbers (so all they’d need to do it read it, and if there were no problems, just change the X sessions over Y weeks) so we can get this submitted. They wrote back, confirmed successful receipt, and agreed to read and update it.

I followed up again the next week to find out the status of this request. Stan replied on 07/18/2024 “No edits have been made. Will let you know as edits are made. Thanks.” which was the last time I heard from anyone at Physiofitness. I followed up twice after; once on 07/26/2024 (in addition to this letter I asked about the impact of insurance changes), and then again on 08/02/2024, this time asking if I am to understand I am no longer a patient of theirs. Given that it is now halfway through September 2024, and Physiofitness has declined to engage in any communication for 8 consecutive weeks, following poor communication/follow through for about 6 months, I am extremely disappointed that I am unable to access appropriate treatment from this physical therapy facility due to utilizing health insurance.

TL;DR: Stan was skilled at physical therapy modalities such as fascial counter strain, but ultimately his expertise was irrelevant; as a patient who needed to use health insurance, Physiofitness was not interested facilitating insurance approvals to allow me to access appropriate care, and instead chose to misrepresent what services (such as administrative insurance-related tasks) they provide before eventually ghosting me.

Runners rejoice! That mega painful sports injury that won’t go away no matter what you do? The team at PhysioFitness will get you back on your feet. I was lucky to work with Stan Kupchenko, a knowledgeable and thoughtful professional. His implementation of the Fascial Counterstrain technique has alleviated my immediate pain as well as released lingering tension that affected my movement. I am excited to continue relying on PhysioFitness as I begin half marathon season!

My experience at Physiofitness has been thoroughly positive under the care of my therapist, Josh Lee. He is a very good diagnostician and zeroed in on the true source of my lingering pain and injury that remained to be healed. Josh proceeds cautiously but confidently and he correctly intuited that I wanted to go slow and steady strengthening my weakened muscles and improving my functional mobility. I felt better after the first visit and recommend him and Physiofitness wholeheartedly.

Cannot recommend Physiofitness enough - the team is top-notch in terms of expertise, approach and attitude. Chris and Stan are amazing; their knowledge and willingness and ability to assess and address issues really is exceptional - they seem to be encyclopedias of knowledge of the body and physical therapy techniques. They are just experts at what they do, and their total client-focus during each session really sets them above other places. I am going to Physiofitness for physical therapy post-shoulder surgery. I have had physical therapy elsewhere before and this is such a world of difference. The therapists are in constant contact with my surgeon to share progress and assess my treatment plan. They have cutting edge tools like cold laser therapy that have accelerated my healing. The environment (a loft in Soho) is extremely comfortable and makes it pleasant to be there; I actually enjoy going to physical therapy. The staff and therapists are truly thoughtful and funny people too, and it's just a great team. I am so grateful my surgeon referred me to Chris and Stan at Physiofitness - could not recommend them more.
